The October Recap

This month things really turned around for us. After losing my new Mystery Ranch Backpack and having it destroyed, I received it the second weekend in October. But that’s not how the month started out. We started it off with a bang with me and tanner going on a spur of the moment antelope hunt on the 1st and Tanner shooting one of our target bucks! We call it the 2 a.m. buck and there will be a story for that coming. The next day Cooper shot his biggest deer to date. His buck was all in velvet still and he made a great 300+ yard shot on this buck! Then on the 3rd I killed my antelope not a ½ mile from where tanners died. We actually saw this buck from Tanner’s carcass. We called him the redemption buck and I will have a story about that coming as well. The next week on like Wednesday Logan shot his antelope and just like that we had our goat tags filled and deer on the brain. I will have Logans story coming as well.

The next weekend Tanner and I made a trip back home to take the antelope back and have one weekend of deer hunting. Things were tough. Not a lot of bucks and a bunch of people and wind. That right there sums up the deer hunt. Then lastly, we have rifle elk season! It is a time of year us Wyoming kids think of as another Christmas. On opening day my dad killed a nice 5x6 bull while I was waiting for Cooper to get done with school and I had classes. It was awesome to see hear and see my dad bull. It was his first bull in 9 years, and it was an awesome story to hear, I just wish I was there to witness it. I will have another post about this weekend as it was a very crazy weekend. Me and cooper had a really close call on Saturday but that’s not the highlight. Aaron killed a 5 point in the burn still hunting while it was spitting snow and rain. It was absolutely awesome to be a part of that. It was 8 years for Aaron since his last elk.

Then things started to get a little crazier, Logan and I went out hunting one night after class and we learned later that night he could have COVID. After some deliberation we went out on Saturday hoping to get his results back then the winter finally hit. Luckily Logan was negative for COVID and Tanner, Keanan, and I went on a quick duck hunt. Then our season came to a screeching stop. Sunday Tanner and I went out on a duck hunt to turn around and come home because of white out conditions, Tanner called me later that afternoon and told me he tested positive for COVID. Just like that I am sitting here in quarantine and elk season has ended just like that. Looking back, it was a great elk season had an opportunity with my bow, and a couple with my rifle which I will dive deeper into. But there is our October recap. I still have a November whitetail tag and I will be chasing those as soon as I am done with this quarantine.
